Dance Classes: Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions and terms and conditions regarding dance classes here at Ludus Dance. If your question is not answered here, then please feel free to ring us on 01524 35936.

How do I enrol or book?

  • Online: at www.ludusdance.org, using credit or debit cards
  • In person: At our dance studio on King Street, Lancaster via cheque, cash, or card.
  • Phone: By calling us on 01524 35936 with your credit or debit card details.

How do I get the maximum discount?

By enrolling for a full term you can take advantage of our fantastic advance booking online offers (see below). We also offer a loyalty card (pay for 9, get 1 free) for those who pay for their classes on the door and concessionary rates on adult classes for for students, registered unemployed, those on income support, registered disabled people and people over 60/65.

Are there any dance exams?

No. We provide an opportunity to develop dance skills and technique in an environment which is accessible to everyone and with a focus on having fun, meeting new people and getting fit. So don't be nervous, come and give us a try!

Do I need to have any dance experience?

No, not at all, just pop along. All of our classes are for mixed ability except for Professional Class or where stated in the class description.

Advance booking offer

our advance booking offers are designed to enable those who wish to book for a full or part term online to enjoy a discount. The discount on the full term (12-weeks) offer is the equivalent of two free classes and the discount on the half term (6-weeks) offer is the equivalent of one free class. The half term offer may be purchased at any time up to the last 6 weeks of a term and applies only to classes over 6 consecutive weeks.

Is buying online secure?

Yes. We take security very seriously and make every effort to ensure that your card details are kept safe. All online credit card transactions take place over a secure server indicated by a padlock or key in your web browser. What if I have a problem enrolling online?

Can I pay over the phone?

Yes, by credit or debit card but we can only accept credit or debit card transactions over £8. Please call 01524 35936 with your card details to hand.

Can I pay by cheque?

Yes you can, but please ring us so we can reserve your place on the register. Please make your cheque payable to Ludus Dance, and bring this into the studio or send the cheque to Katie McGivney, Ludus Dance, Assembly Rooms, King Street, Lancaster, LA1 1RE. Please note: if the class sells out, priority will be given to those people who have paid.

Can I reserve a place?

Yes, but please note: if the class sells out, priority will be given to those people who have paid.

Can I start at any point in the term?

Yes you can - unless otherwise stated in the session description. We welcome new starters throughout the term although, where possible, we encourage people to attend for the full term to get the most out of the programme.

Can I pay weekly?

Yes you can, but this does not secure your booking unless you pay a week in advance. If the session becomes fully booked, priority will be given to those who have paid for the term, or a week in advance.

Why are there two prices displayed against some dance sessions?

These show the full (adult) price to begin with followed by the concession price.

Am I eligible for a concession?

Concessions are available for students, registered unemployed, those on income support, registered disabled people and state pensioners. You will need to show some form of evidence when you first register yourself in a class at a concessionary rate.

What is the limit on numbers?

For safety purposes and to ensure that you benefit from the highest quality of dance tuition, most adult dance classes are limited to 25 participants. Exceptions may occur for some children and toddler sessions.

Do I have to attend every Ludus Dance class?

We understand that attending every session may not be possible, but we believe that the more you attend, the more progress you'll make. You’ll also get greater benefits in terms of improved well being and value for money.

What should I wear to my Ludus dance class?

Bare feet are ideal for working on the dance floor, although some specialist classes require trainers or shoes, e.g. for Street Dance we would recommend trainers. Please note outside shoes are not permitted in the dance studio. Other than that, just wear something comfortable and unrestrictive, i.e. tracksuit bottoms and a loose top. Especially in the winter months, we recommend you bring layers of loose clothing.

Where are you based?

The Ludus Dance Studio is based above The Assembly Rooms, on King Street, Lancaster. Our postcode is LA1 1RE.

Are all your sessions held at Ludus Dance Studio?

Yes, unless otherwise indicated.

What if I can’t make a session?

We regret that we cannot transfer your payment to another week if you fail to turn up.

What if I've paid for the whole term but find the dance class is not right for me?

In this instance your money is transferable to another dance class if there are places available.

Can I get a refund?

We do not operate a refund system. Extraordinary circumstances may warrant consideration - these are referred to the Finance Officer or CEO.

Health and Safety Tips

Exercise is fun and good for you. However, if it’s been a while since you did any, we advise a routine check up with your doctor before embarking on one of our courses. This also applies to anyone who has recently received medical attention.

Child Protection

All dance tutors for children’s classes hold a current DBS disclosure.

Terms and Conditions of our Advance Booking Offers

  • Advance booking prices are available to buy on-line at www.ludusdance.org, over the telephone or ‘in person’ at reception.
  • The advance booking offers only apply to classes over consecutive weeks.
  • Ludus Dance will make every effort to ensure (technically) that our web site is operational during term time. However, we cannot be held responsible for technical issues outside our control.
  • Orders placed by you on our website are subject to acceptance by us.
  • Once you have placed your order you'll receive an email acknowledgement from us. This is not acceptance of your order.
  • Your order represents an offer to purchase. Acceptance of your order will take place when we email you confirmation that you have been added to the register.
  • In the rare occurrence that it should become necessary, we reserve the right to cancel an order.
  • Ludus Dance reserves the right to cancel any sessions and courses if sufficient bookings have not been made. In this event you will be offered a full refund or transfer to another session of your choice.
