innovative dance utilising podcasts & text messaging

What was f.city?

f.city was the first festival of digital culture in Lancaster and on-line. Three weeks of exhibitions, events and activities brought together some of the very best technology-driven creative practice to the city.

f.city was organised by Folly, a digital arts organisation developing and delivering content through the presentation of workshops, events, exhibitions, research and consultancy work.

What was the finale event?

A world first took place on Saturday 21st October in Lancaster as members of the public of all ages joined professional dancers from Ludus Dance for a unique public performance.

Performing dance steps they learnt from downloaded video podcasts, participants were led on a treasure hunt of dance across the city. Guided by live text message updates from their mobile phones they discovered secret workshops based in outdoor locations across Lancaster. The culmination of the treasure hunt was in Dalton Square, where members of the public watched participants put all the elements of their dance treasure together!

We produced a series of 4 video podcasts (video clips) featuring Kate and Hannah, which gave you a sneak peek of a few of the moves you would learn on the day.

The Welcome E-mail & Text Message

After signing up for the event, participants were sent a welcome email and text message with their starting instructions!

Thank you for registering for FINALE on SATURDAY 21 OCTOBER: a performance organised by Ludus Dance and folly as part of the f.city festival. Here are your instructions!

On Saturday 21 October please go to Ludus Dance, Assembly Rooms, King Street, Lancaster. Hannah and Kate and Ludus Dance helpers will be there to meet you and tell you about the afternoons's event.

On Saturday you will be moving around various city centre locations on foot. Please wear suitable clothing and shoes should be flat and non-slip e.g. trainers. If you can, wear something RED!

Please bring your MOBILE PHONE and keep it switched on from 2pm.
