Put a Plug In It
In 2010 and 2011 Ludus Dance delivered Put a Plug In It - an intergenerational dance and technology project - in partnership with Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, Fred Longworth High School, Over 50's Forum and Salford University.
So what's it all about?
Launched on 10th November 2010, the project focuses on the heritage of communication and explores how technology affects the way we communicate across different generations. Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Heritage Team will run initial reminiscence workshops based on the heritage and use of technology. This will then provide content for dance workshops and performance.
Ludus Dance will be leading on the creative dance workshops, and aims to develop a live dance/media performance piece to be toured to North West venues in Autumn 2011. The participants will also have the opportunity to work with website trainers and filmmakers to create material for the project.
Here's an update on what's been going on...
Many members of the Over 50's Forum had no prior knowledge of and had little confidence using computer technology. The Put a Plug In It training sessions provided a safe learning environment where participants gained the necessary IT skills to develop and maintain the project website, uploading photos and videos from the dance sessions.
One member said she had wanted to be able to use email to stay in touch with her family and friends, and the Put a Plug In It training sessions has given her the skills to do this.
