Checklist for watching other productions
We hope that this resource will have helped you not only to be able to read what’s going on in the Ludus Dance shows, but also give you the tools to be able to analyse and understand the work of other dance companies that you may have the opportunity to see.
So, here’s a checklist of things to look out for when you’re watching dance again. Thinking about these different elements and how they are combined can really help with understanding what’s happening and why, and what themes are being explored.
Think about the;
- movement vocabulary and style
- use of characters and the relationships between them
- use of music, text, film or lighting
- use of set, props and costumes
- overall structure of the performance
In addition, it can be useful to do further research either before or after seeing a work, by visiting the company’s website. There may be descriptions or video diaries of the process of creating the piece, interviews with choreographers or dancers, further information on composers, filmmakers or designers.
You can look for reviews of the show, audience views and feedback, or send your feedback, write a review or ask questions.
You may also find links to other websites with further information on a particular subject that was explored in the dance.
Keep your eyes peeled and try to see as much as you can!
