From fashion to sport to home furnishings, everyday items we covet and take for granted have been made using child labour. Iqbal Masih was 'sold' at the age of four to a carpet factory where he spent six years, working up to 16 hours a day, shackled to a loom. He was freed by activists and began his worldwide campaign on behalf of an exploited workforce, receiving international acclaim for highlighting the horrors of child labour. One day, whilst out riding his bicycle, he was shot and killed. He was 12 years old.
Inspired by Iqbal's life, SOLD is a high impact experience, 55 minutes of dance theatre tackling a theme we'd like to forget! Provocative, compulsive and uncompromising, SOLD will unravel the surprising history of your trainers and much more besides!
"The controversial subject of child labour is takled with passion and commitment ... multi-media images ... industrial 'nosebleed' techno dance music ... giving it a thoroughly slick and modern feel ... The effects and visual imagery ... get the adrenaline pumping ... This camp lesson is darkly humorous."
