Dance Artist & Dance Teacher Training
STEPAHEAD COURSE 1
AIMS AND OBJECTIVESThrough a combination of practical and theoretical workshops, presentations, talks, discussions and questioning, the aims are for participants to achieve the following:
DAY 1
- To gain an insight into the structure of ludusdance and the key aims, objectives and style of the education work undertaken by the Touring Company.
- To develop an understanding of dance in the National Curriculum at KST1+2; Programmes of Study, Knowledge, Skills and Understanding.
- To explore Laban Analysis and the Language of Dance through a physical warm-up.
- To understand the key elements in planning and structuring a dance lesson or scheme of work.
- To explore practical examples of creative, theme and issue based dance workshops at KST1+2.
- To develop critical skills in assessment and evaluation of practical sessions.
- To develop an awareness of the needs of schools and organisations that may employ Dance Artists and the specific requirements and qualities needed to succeed in this area.
- To have the opportunity to access information regarding careers and additional resources, and to receive advice and guidance on related issues.
DAY 2
- To develop an understanding of dance in the National Curriculum at KST3+4; Programmes of Study, Knowledge, Skills and Understanding.
- To explore practical examples of creative, theme and issue based dance workshops at KST3+4.
- To explore practical examples of ideas and approaches for working with young people with special needs.
- To develop critical skills in assessing and evaluating practical sessions through both active participation and guided observation of workshop examples on video.
- To understand how a range of approaches and strategies can be employed to enhance teaching skills and enable flexibility in teaching successfully in a range of situations.
- To be aware of recommended practice and points to consider both prior to and following a dance session.
DAY 3
- To explore practical examples of technique exercises and repertory suitable for KST4, GCSE and Post 16 groups.
- To explore practical examples of approaches to teaching contact skills- from beginners to advanced level.
- To explore practical examples of the use of games in a dance lesson or workshop – as warm-ups, ice-breakers and to develop movement skills and vocabulary.
- To consolidate all aspects of the course in planning a single dance lesson and ideas for schemes of work.
- To plan with a partner and deliver ideas for a dance lesson on a given theme and for a particular age group.
- To evaluate the training course and consider individual learning outcomes and further training needs.
