Dance in Community

Training for Dance in the Community

Delivering dance work in community settings

We run courses for a variety of community organisations that are interested in using dance and movement in their work and looking at their staff having introductory skills to support such work.

For example; Working with child care workers at Sure Start to facilitate running toddler movement play sessions, working with staff in residential care settings to promote recreational dance sessions.

Equally we can tailor the course to suit the needs of your setting and staff. We promote versatility and accessibility of dance, its only right that we walk the talk! If you are not sure, run an idea past us, you have nothing to lose.

Examples of our work

Ludus Dance and Sure Start North Lancaster were finalists in ‘Partners in Excellence’ a National Award from The Daycare Trust that promotes high quality childcare and its providers nationwide.

The two organisations came together to promote fun, creative and imaginative dance activity that involved parents and children playing together. We were finalists in the “promoting children’s well being” category. There were over 40 national entrants across the awards.

We have since delivered introductory training days for parent reps and Sure Start Staff to enable more delivery of these kind of beneficial sessions promoting movement play together. There are four groups run by parents now, across the city.

We are keen to look at ‘rolling’ this programme out across other Sure Start Centres and different regions to develop child care workers in all settings to facilitate and support this fun and enriching work!

Ludus Dance delivered training for undergraduates on the University of Central Lancashire BA Hons programme about working with dance in community contexts. ‘Skilling up’ and inspiring future dance artists in the region!
