Training for Dance Companies

Ludus Dance can work with dance companies looking to develop their education work. The training is designed specifically for the needs of each company, considering different styles and forms of dance.

Pre-planning sessions are timetabled to identify the specific needs and areas of development for the company. Working from the company’s education and artistic policies, shared experiences and knowledge, the course aims and objectives are jointly identified and agreed.

The delivery of the course can be flexible as further areas for development are highlighted.

“I found the entire course extremely well planned and thorough. The generosity of the entire team was overwhelming.”

Team teaching skills are explored and notions of demonstration are discussed in relation to effective teaching pratice.

“Gave me an insight into good team practice and delivery of dance in education. I found it extremely useful, accessible and inspiring…to a whole world of new heights and possibilities.”

Ludus Dance – New Model

The Touring Company works in Higher Education settings delivering workshops about the company, why we do what we do and how we do it! This dissemination of the Ludus model is achieved through a mixture of practical and theoretical workshops. We can tailor each of the workshops to fit in with existing courses.

This New Model has been achieved through working with dance artists/companies abroad. In 2001, the Touring Company worked with dance artists in Kuala Lumpur for a whole week exploring themes from the Ludus show CLASH (exploring Conflict Resolution). Workshop material was also developed and during the second week, Malaysian dance artists partnered with a Ludus dance artist and worked with young people in local schools again exploring themes of Conflict Resolution.

The culmination of the 2 week training programme included a performance by 80 school students from Kuala Lumpur followed by CLASH from Ludus Dance.

After Ludus returned to Britain , the Malaysian Dance Artists have developed after school youth dance clubs and produced their own professional performance based on the themes of Conflict Resolution.
